Vacation scrapbooks are one of the most popular albums
to make. Whether you’re scrapping a weekend camping trip, or a trip of a lifetime to Italy, vacation scrapbooks are a great way to capture those memories.
The best way to get started is by organizing all of your pictures however you see fit. Some people prefer chronological order, while others prefer common themes
(i.e. wineries, shopping, museums, etc). After you have the pictures sorted as you see fit, begin editing out the pictures you don’t want to use (for example, the blurry pictures, the ones where everyone’s not smiling, etc).
After you’ve selected which pictures you want to use, begin choosing background colors that match the pictures. The most successful layouts match the background paper
with the color in the photos. For example, use blue and green papers with beach layouts, and green and brown papers for nature layouts. I find a quick way to stay organized is to keep the pictures in the protective covers with the papers you have selected for those pictures.
Once you’re ready to begin cropping, start arranging the pictures on the pages. Make sure to leave enough room in-between pictures as to not “crowd” the page. After you have glued the picture on the page, consider using embellishments
, stickers
and other memorabilia to “jazz” up the page. You may want to include museum tickets, or a label from a great bottle of wine you had at dinner in your scrapbook
. Don’t be afraid to add the personal touches – it’s these that will bring back all of your emotions every time you look at the album
.
A popular technique is journaling, which allows the cropper to bring a personal touch to the lay-out. Journaling can either be handwritten, or computer typed. It is then incorporated into the layout as the cropper sees fit. Be sure to write down not only your emotions, but also the little details (for example, hotel name and room number). It’s the little details that will add so much to the scrapbook years from now. Many croppers will bring a small notepad with them on vacation, to write down any notes or ideas that they would like to incorporate into their scrapbook. Most importantly….have fun!
